Act 2 opens with a wedding banquet celebrating the imminent nuptials of Adina (Angela Di Serio) and Belcore (Stephen Targett). Adina’s true interests are hinted at by the fact that she’s upset that Nemorino isn’t at the party.

Dr. Dulcamara (Gerald Hannon), who more or less appoints himself master of ceremonies, introduces a new song to the locals, with the help of Adina (Angela Di Serio). It’s called “Nina, the Gondolier Girl, and the Horny Old Senator.” It’s a hit!
Nemorino (William Parker) rushes in, hoping for more Elixir, but has no money and Dulcamara tells him he’s got just 15 minutes to find some if he wants another bottle.

Belcore (Yevgeny Yablonovsky) enters to find a disconsolate Nemorino, who explains that he needs money. Join the army, says Belcore, and you’ll get money on the spot. Nemorino is reluctant, but thinking that this is the only to get enough Elixir to win Adina, he signs up and is welcomed to the regiment by Belcore (who is quite aware that this will get a troublesome Nemorino out of his hair).

The village girls rush in to hear gossip from Giannetta (Lynne Shuttleworth, centre), who informs them that no one knows it yet, but Nemorino’s uncle has died and left him his entire fortune. Suddenly, Nemorino is the most desirable bachelor in town (and gets pounced on by both Giannetta and chorister Sara Digirolamo)!
