A convent in Italy, early 17th century. The sisters file in from chapel, under the watchful eye of Masami Kuramoto, Mistress of the Novices.

The sisters speak of their secret desires. Most claim to have none, but Sister Genovieffa (played by Brynn Martineau-Garcia (left) and, on alternate nights, by Brittany Stewart (right)) confesses that she misses her life as a shepherdess, and misses the baby lambs most of all.

When Sister Genovieffa asks Sister Angelica (Natalie Rogerson) if she has any desires, she says she does not.

The other sisters are shocked because they know Angelica has lied — she has been desperate for word from her family, and has heard nothing for seven years (left to right: Barbara Thomson, Kathy Wert and Keira Grant).

The nursing sister (Lynne Shuttleworth, left) runs in to say that another sister has been stung by a wasp, and asks Sister Angelica for a potion to help ease the pain. Angelica, who is an expert in medicinal herbs, prepares something for her. In the scene at right, two sisters who have been out gathering food present their bounty to the others.
