The Princess is silent at first, but finally tells Angelica that the boy had taken ill, and though everything was done to save him, he succumbed to a fever and died. Angelica collapses in despair.

Left alone after the Princess leaves, she imagines her little boy in heaven, looking down at her, and she resolves to end her life and join him there.

Angelica knows that herbs and flowers can both cure and kill. She prepares a potion that she knows will kill her, and drinks it. She suddenly realizes that she has committed a mortal sin, and that her soul is damned. Dying, she prays to the Virgin to forgive her, to save her from hell.

The Virgin hears her prayer. There is a miracle. The child (Azaria Worthington-Begoray) she never knew appears, and reaches out to Angelica, to guide her soul to heaven.
