Tito Dean came to Canada from Italy in 1954. He began his singing studies at Central Technical School in 1956, and in 1959 won scholarships to continue at the Royal Conservatory of Music. While there, he was chosen to create the baritone lead in the premier performance of Aria Da Capo, by the Canadian composer Raymond Pannell. He joined the Canadian Opera Company in 1960, appeared in touring productions of Orpheus in the Underworld, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme, and Carmen, and in many of the company’s performances in Toronto. In 1964, he was invited to join the Stratford Festival for its production of Kurt Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny. With TOR, Tito has taken lead roles in Rigoletto, Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Madama Butterfly, Gianni Schicchi, La Boheme, Lucia di Lammermoor, and many others. He also sings with Coro Verdi, and this year will be heard in excerpts from Verdi’s Macbeth.
