At a public audience at his palace in Boston, Count Riccardo (Taras Chmil, right) receives petitions from his subjects, but also hears a request from the Chief Justice (Scott Saini, centre) to banish the fortune teller Ulrica. Riccardo’s page Oscar (Katie Cross, left) comes to her defence.


Also in attendance are his best friend, Renato (Yevgeny Yablonovsky, left), with whose wife, Amelia, Riccardo is secretly in love, and malcontents Sam (Brad Hoover, left) and Tom (Frank De Jong), who are plotting against Riccardo’s life.



As amusement for the court, and to settle whether Ulrica should be banished, Riccardo invites everyone to meet him in disguise later that night at Ulrica’s cave.
