After they have returned to their home in the city, Amelia (Maria Knight) tells her husband (Yevgeny Yablonovsky) that she has not compromised her virtue, but he is adamant and says she must die. She begs him for a chance to kiss her son before he kills her. Left alone, Renato is tormented by his friend’s betrayal, and decides it is Riccardo who must die.



Renato has invited the conspirators, and persuades them that he will join them in the assassination plot. When Amelia is forced to draw lots to see who will kill Riccardo, it is Renato’s name she chooses. Sam (Brad Hoover, left), Renato and Tom (Frank De Jong) swear allegiance. When the page Oscar (Katie Cross) arrives to invite everyone to a masked ball, it is clear to the conspirators where the crime should take place.



Just before the ball in his palace, Riccardo (Taras Chmil) decides that, though he loves Amelia, he cannot betray his friend, and signs a document that will return both Renato and his wife to England.
