As the final act begins, Rodolfo (James Dundass, left) and Marcello (Gerald Hannon) reflect on their lost loves. Mimi and Rodolfo have broken up, as have Marcello and Musetta. Both women seem to have found new lovers. Their sombre mood lifts when Colline and Schaunard (Oslen Hill) arrive with a meagre repast, but a desire to have fun.

What began as a “dance” soon turns into a sword fight, which is interrupted when Musetta (Rachael Jewell) arrives suddenly and announces that Mimi is with her, but too ill to climb the stairs. Rodolfo runs to her aid.

Rodolfo begs Mimi (Natalie Donnelly) to rest, while Colline (Darcy Marin) decides he will sell his beloved overcoat to get money to buy medicine.

Left alone, the two reminisce about their first meeting in this very room, and Rodolfo (James Dundass) shows Mimi (Natalie Donnelly) that he has kept the bonnet he bought her as a souvenir of their love.

Mimi is seized by a fit of coughing — it is clear to everyone but Rodolfo that she is fading fast. Musetta (Rachael Jewell) arrives with the gift of a muff, and tells Mimi that it is Rodolfo who has paid for it.

When Mimi dies, Rodolfo (James Dundass) is the last to realize. He screams her name, and falls sobbing on her body.
