JOIN OUR TEAM OF SOLOISTS!
These photos show scenes from our 2008 productions of Verdis A Masked Ball and Puccinis La Bohème featuring some TOR stalwarts, and some singers taking roles for the first time! Top row, left, James Dundass, as Rodolfo in La Bohème with (centre) Natalie Donnelly as his Mimi. Right: tenor Taras Chmil, debuting with TOR, dazzled as Riccadro in A Masked Ball. Middle row, left: Katie Cross, also new with TOR, earned thunderous applause as Oscar in A Masked Ball. Middle, Scott Saini, whod never even seen an opera before he joined TOR, sang Alcindoro and Benoit in La Bohème, and the Judge in A Masked Ball. Right: Oslen Hill, also a newcomer, mastered the difficult role of Schaunard in La Bohème. Bottom row: TOR veteran Elizabeth McLeod sang Ulrica in A Masked Ball, while Maria Knight, centre, made her TOR debut as Amelia in that opera. Newcomer Brad Hoover (left) sang Sam in A Masked Ball, and Darcy Marin (right) debuted as Colline in La Bohème and doubled as Tom in A Masked Ball.
You could be in the picture next year! All solo roles are cast through auditions that happen each spring and fall.
Spring auditions will be held Saturday, June 14, from 2 p.m to 7 p.m.
Fall auditions: TBA
We will be choosing two operas from the following three currently under consideration:
Carmen
(Bizet)
Tosca (Puccini)
Cenerentola (Rossini)
There will also be two evenings of opera excerpts, featuring our soloists in short scenes from a selection of well-loved operas.
A singer interested in a principal role should
prepare several arias from one or more of the above operas and
- leave a message at 416-698-9572, or
- e-mail your request
Soloists interested in a secondary role, or anyone who may not have time to prepare pieces from the operas under consideration, may sing any aria which he or she feels shows the voice to advantage. All voice types are required, but tenors and baritones are particularly encouraged to audition.
Soloists should understand that, in addition to their duties as principals, they are required to sing in the chorus of the opera in which they do not have a solo role. Soloists must also pay a fee to the Toronto District School Board in order to register with this program. Rehearsals begin in October, 2008, for performances
in February and early March, 2009.
Check out our Soloist Program page for more information and a few words from singers whove been through it all before!
No audition is required for those interested
in joining the chorus so check our Chorus Program for more information, or write us at Chorus Info.
